Questions - The Best Christian Marital Status

These questions relate to the sermon on 17 February, The Best Christian Marital Status.  The sermon is based on 1 Corinthians 7, and can be heard on this website.

1.  When you were younger than marrying age, did you considered remaining single, or did you just assume you would find a mate?

2.  What was the question from the Corinthian church which motivated Paul's teaching regarding marriage in this chapter? (v. 1)

3.  From where or whom did Paul receive the prohibition of divorce? (vv. 10-11)

4.  Verse 17 says, "...each person should live as a believer in whatever situation that Lord has assigned them."  How does this statement help answer all of the other questions about marriage or singleness?  Does it mean that your marriage status cannot change after you commit to Christ?

5.   According to verse 19, what counts more than status or position in life?

6.  How might a single person serve the Lord in ways that are difficult for a married person?

7.  Can you name any famous Christian missionaries who were not married?

8.  What was Paul's perspective on the timing of the Lord's return?  From which of his words do you find the evidence?

9.  How can we justifiy Paul's expectations for the Lord's return with our experience in the early 21st century?

10.  How would you sum up this chapter of 1 Corinthians in one sentence?
