Questions - Spiritual Gifts
April 7, 2019, 12:00 AM

These questions relate to the sermon on 7 April 2019, Spiritual Gifts.  The primary scripture is 1 Corinthians 12:1-11.  This is by no means an exhaustive lesson on spiritual gifts,  It is more of an introduction based on a small part of chapter 12 which must be taken within a larger context.  This is mentioned because there are so many erroneous beliefs about spiritual gifts and public worship which are based on small pieces of scripture not tempered by a larger context.

1.  This passage is primarily about gifts used during corporate worship.  Discuss ways in which you see gifts become apparent in worship, both normal ways and unusual ways.

2.  The sermon focused on three questions: (discuss and answer the questions)

  • What are spiritual gifts?
  • Who receives spiritual gifts?
  • What is the purpose of spiritual gifts?

3.  Read the following scriptures with listing or mention of particular gifts:  1 Cor 12:8-10, 28-30; 1 Cor 13:1-3; 1 Cor 14:1-3 (representative of the whole chapter); Romans 12:6-8; 1 Peter 4:10-11.

4.  How do we distinguish between natural gifts and spiritual gifts?  Which are God given?  Should we distinguish the difference?

5.  What would happen in church if every believer were allowed and willing to work out their gifting?

If you would like to take a spiritual gifts survey, you may use this free one:   It takes about 15 minutes, and it asks you to create a login at the end which requires an email address.  As with any survey, input from people who know you should be gathered to help measure the validity of the results.  You and the people around you probably know your gifts, but surveys can help provide language.
