Questions - Holy Who?

These questions relate to the sermon on 29 July 2018, Holy Who?  The beginning passage is Matthew 3:13-17, but there are many references mentioned in the sermon.  This sermon is also posted on the website under the sermons tab.

Note to group leaders:  You will have to choose carefully for your group.  These questions when fully discussed might take several hours.  Encourage your group to do some of the work before group meeting.  Also, Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem provides good teaching on these topics in the chapters on the Trinity and The Work of The Holy Spirit.  The sermon leans on this source.  A copy is available in the pastor's office and in the library.  In addition sermons or articles by John Piper and Alistair Begg might be helpful.

1.  Discuss how you describe or have described the Holy Spirit.

2. How do you explain the Trinity?

3.  Identify how the three persons of the Trinity were visibly and audibly present at Jesus' baptism; Matthew 3:13-17.

4.  Does the Holy Spirit still become visibly and audibly manifest today?  In what kind of circumstances?

5.  The work of the Holy Spirit was presented in four parts:  empowering, purifying, revealing, and unifying.  One category at a time, discuss your experience.  (This might take a while.)

6.  Discuss biblical references to the different kinds of work of the Spirit.  These were mentioned in the sermon:  Genesis 1; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 2:10; John 16:8-11; Acts 7:5; Galatians 5:22-23; 2 Timothy 3:16; Romans 8:16; Acts 15:28.  There are many more.  We hardly scratched the surface of the Old Testament.

7.  What keeps us from experiencing the work of the Holy Spirit?

8.  How much of the Holy Spirit do you want?
