Questions - Everyday Worship

These questions relate to the sermon on 30 September 2018, Everyday Worship, delivered by Clinton Salmon.  The primary scripture is Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

1.  Review the meaning of worship or definitions of worship.

2.  From Deuteronomy 6:4-9, remembered in Judaism as The Shema, we find instruction to love God with our heart, soul, and strength.  Discuss how the Hebrew meanings of these words relate to our worship of God in all that we do, not just Sunday church meetings.

  • heart (lev) - heart muscle, center of thought, center of emotion, center of choices/discernment
  • soul (ne'phesh) - neck/throat, where everything enters the body; source of expression
  • strength (me'od) - muchness (very, much); enhanced self, beyond our capabilities

3.  How does Romans 12:1-2 relate to the Deuteronomy passage?

4.  Discuss practical applications.  In everyday life how are heart, soul, and strength involved in worship?  How do you do this or teach your children to do this? (verses 6-9)

5.  Please take time during this week to examine your everyday worship.

6.  How does everyday worship relate to corporate worship?

7.  How does worship relate to the four characteristics of disciples on which we have focused: walking in faith, abiding in Christ, loving one-another, bearing much fruit?
